Sono nato a Roma nell'agosto del 1956, e mi sono laureato in Ingegneria Elettronica nel 1981.
Le mie passioni: la radio, la montagna, la libertà...
Il mio lavoro: imprenditore e sperimentazione in settore TLC.
Anzi proprio dal 1995 grazie alla mia passione, un amico radioamatore tedesco mi coinvolse in un'avventura imprenditoriale a cui devo veramente tanto.
Non volevo fare l'ingegnere! VOLEVO COSTRUIRMI UNA RADIO!
Da studente non avevo strumenti (giusto il tester di un corso di elettronica per corrispondenza....), presi la licenza OM nel 1974 e cominciati con un VFO Geloso 4-102, una valvola 6L6 come PA: ben 2-3 W out, un ricevitore Geloso G4-220, dove lo spazio dei 20 m nella scala della sintonia era ....1.5 cm; accordatore d'antenna a Pi-Greco della Geloso e....un dipolo come antenna!....
La mia condizione di studente mi costringeva ad autocostruire tutto, mi procuravo il denaro scrivendo articoli per la Rivista Radio Kit Elettronica, dove l'amico Nerio I4NE mi dava fiducia.....
Nel tempo ho posseduto anche un TX Hallicrafters HT46 (il mio primo TX SSB), una linea Drake B, una linea C che modificavo sempre per ridurre la potenza e per studiare e capire.....
Ma sempre il mio sogno era farmi un ricevitore tutto mio!
Finalmente negli anni '80 - '90 ho avuto il denaro per i primi oscilloscopi e strumenti da laboratorio (un generatore BF home-made, un generatore RF Marconi TF2002,un alnalizzatore di spettro (HP141), un frequenzimetro, un grd-dip, ecc.)
Il primo ricevitore decente vide la luce verso il 1985: era il primo che funzionava realmente, riceveva segnali al livello del Drake R4C e non slittava in frequenza (avevo un VFO della Trio); poi ne sono seguiti altri via via ed oggi il progetto che sto assemblando è forse il migliore o fra i migliori cioè il CDG2000! Il sogno dei miei sogni!
Mi piace il QRP a cui sono rimasto legato per motivi sentimentali ed oggi ho solo TX QRP la mia stazione non può emettere più dei 10 W dell'Elecraft K2! Uso il CW per abitudine che poi è diventata passione. L'SSB la uso per le chiacchiere con gli amici per per le VHF in cui non mi dedico al DX, ma solo alla sperimentazione.
Non sono un virtuoso del CW, ma lo amo e mi piace. Sperimento le nuove tecniche e credo che porteranno molto, specie alla possibilità di fare QSO con potenze irrisorie, ma...amo usare un bug della Vibroplex, un "Lightning-grey"che mi porto appresso anche in montagna nelle mie spedizioni SOTA.
Sì, il SOTA è qualcosa che mi ha colpito fin dall'inizio ed ho avuto discreti risultati insieme a chi mi ha accompagnato...cioè XYL ed YL.....
Il resto è sperimentazione e ricerca e lo troverete nelle pagine che seguono.....
Buoni DX in QRP, magari anche in QRPp.....

I did not want to be an engineer !!!!…. my dream was just to BUILD MY OWN RADIO !!!
When I was a student I didn't have any electronic instrument (the only one was a multi-meter by a mail order school...). Finally I received my Ham radio licence in 1974 and I began my amateur career using a Geloso VFO 4-102, a 6L6 valve RF PA: with an output of 2-3 W. The receiver was a Geloso G4-220, the tuning space on 20 m was just 1.5 cm (just over half an inch) on the reading dial ...; then I had a PI-ATU and the antenna was ....a dipole!
Being just a student I was forced to do everything by myself in my shack. I earned some money writing technical articles for the Italian Magazine "Radio Kit Elettronica", the Editor Nerio Neri, I4NE, did trusted me... hi.
Then, in the following years, I was the happy owner of an Hallicrafters TX, the HT46 (my first SSB TX), a Drake B line, a Drake C line and … I was always putting my hands inside these equipment, in order to reduce power, in order to study, in order to understand, in order to ...
My obsessive dream was always to be able to build my own receiver, with my own hands!
Finally in the 80s and 90s I was able to buy some laboratory equipment like an Oscilloscope (TEK 466), an RF Generator (Marconi TF2002) , a Spectrum Analyzer (HP141), a Frequency meter, a home-made AF generator grid-dip meter, and some other gadgets ...
My first “real” to be called receiver was designed and assembled in 1985, it was good enough, with no frequency drift (I used a Trio VFO), and capable of signal detecting as good as the Drake RX. Then I was able to build several new receivers, and now I'm assembling one of the best transceivers in the Ham world, the CDG2000, my dream receiver!
I enjoy QRP. Since I began my Ham Radio adventure and still today there is only QRP Power … in my shack my rigs are: FT817 and Elecraft K2. I use CW on 95% of my time and SSB is only to chat with friends in VHF or UHF, where I do not chase much for DX. In V-U-SHF I'm involved just in experiments.
I'm not a very fast CW op, but I love the Morse code, I enjoy it very much. Also, I like to make tests using new digital methods and I believe these will be very useful in future's radio emissions, particularly when we need to use very low power for our QSO. But my true love is a Vibroplex bug: I have one in my rucksack I take to in mountain trips or when I'm in SOTA expeditions; it is a"lightning-grey" and I'm very proud owner!
Yes … SOTA is a very interesting and exciting challenge for me and my family, and I do collected often good results.
What else? Just tests, experiments, research in order to understand, to homebrew, to discover....sometimes, “the hot water” [l’acqua calda] too....
I wish you many DX but in QRP and possibly in QRPp !!!
